Avon SuperExtend Liquid Liner Review

image

Advantages:

  • Cheap.
Like I keep saying Avon always has deals going on so I managed to snag this for $3.99 which is a steal considering what drugstore brands are charging these days!
  • Dark.
Some makeup brands aren’t really that dark even though they’ll say that they’re black, so I was glad this was dark enough with one layer.
  • Felt tip.
I really like the tips that look like pens/markers since it makes it easier to use especially first thing in the morning.

Disadvantages:

  • Stiff brush.
This made it really hard to use since I felt like I was scratching my eyes and that brush didn’t really move the way I wanted it to.
  • Smudges.
If you purchase this you will have to apply black eyeshadow on top of this otherwise your eyeliner will disappear.
  • Dries out really easily.
I was really disappointed that this product didn’t last as long. After 2 weeks there was barely any product coming out and I didn’t even use it everyday! It contains 1.6g (I have no idea if that’s a lot less than other brands)

Last words: I will not repurchase. The sale price isn’t good enough for something that doesn’t last.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Review

A couple weeks ago I went to Shoppers Drug Mart to purchase concealer, and I ended up walking out with 2 lipsticks instead so here’s a review on them!

Drugstore tip: Double check to make sure you grabbed the right colour. Unfortunately sometimes people put lipsticks in the wrong spot so you want to make sure you’re purchasing the colour you tested.

Advantages:

  • Lustrous.
These are definitely moisturizing. I like how it doesn’t feel harsh when I apply and it doesn’t feel heavy.
  • Pretty colours.
I spent 20 minutes swatching these and I am very happy that they sort them by browns, nudes, pinks, etc.
  • Cream/Satin finish.
Since this isn’t a matte finish I find it has a moisturizing effect. I also find that it gives a more natural/healthy look.

Disadvantages:

  • Beware travelers!
These lids do not lock in place like other lipsticks. I opened my purse the other day at work and the lid was off one of them. Thankfully it wasn’t all over the inside of my purse too!
  • You will have to reapply.
Unfortunately the tradeoff I find with lipsticks that have a satin/cream finish is that they don’t last all day. Ya your lips will feel moisturized but the colour will wear off.

Last words: I think these are good enough for me to reconsider purchasing other colours. These are good for every day wear, and I would recommend these lipsticks. However, if you like really dark or bold lipsticks I would not recommend these since they don’t stay put throughout the day.

Swatches:

Cocoa Bronze (150) can look a little intimidating but it’s a deep brown that would look pretty on all skin types. In my opinion Blushing Mauve (460) is a deeper pink that can be trickier to pull off.

Avon SuperShock Max Waterproof Mascara Review

image

After trying that other terrible mascara from Avon I decided it probably would be a good idea that I test out this mascara as well just in case I should turf them both.Needless to say this mascara was much better.

Advantages:

  • Curls for days!
My lashes did not budge at all. They stayed perfectly curled all day. Yes! My stubborn Asian lashes!
  • Brush is great.
It looks a little weird but it coats every single one of my lashes, and it’s not scratchy like the other one.
  • Intense colour.
It only comes in black but that’s the only shade I buy when purchasing mascaras.
  • Always a deal.
With Avon products their stuff always goes on sale. I got this for $5.99. Regularly it is $9.99.
  • 10g of product.
  • Waterproof.
  • Removes easily.
Some waterproof mascaras can be a pain in the butt to remove, but this removes pretty easily and all of it too!

Disadvantages:

  • It does clump after a few coats.
I love to apply as much mascara as I possibly can, but with this mascara definitely stop after 2 coats unless you like spidery/clumpy lashes.

Overall this was way better than their SuperExtend mascara. I think this might be a new favourite of mine too. I kept staring in the mirror the first day I wore this since I was surprised how curly my lashes were! Last words: I would definitely repurchase and recommend!

Avon SuperExtend Mascara Review

I finally broke open my mascaras from Avon from my splurge way back. I can’t really say that this was a good mascara to try out. I can’t even make a list as to things I like about this mascara because I don’t really like anything about it. Yikes!

Dislikes:

  • Stiff brush.
With the stiff brush I felt like it was scratching out my eyes every time I would apply this. Not really my favourite thing to do first thing in the morning.
  • Zero product.
Ya it helps keep the clumping to 0% but honestly barely any mascara touched my eyelashes. Honestly nothing is on the brush when I applied it.
  • No curl or hold.

Definitely was not impressed with this mascara at all. It says “won’t clump, smudge or flake”, but honestly when there is no product on the darn brush of course there won’t be any clumping, smudging or flaking! Last words: Will not repurchase.

Feeling beautiful while sick!

It is unfortunately that time of year again when everyone seems to be sniffling and coughing around you. If you’re unfortunately recovering from a cold/flu at the moment here are some helpful makeup tips to get you through the day!

ps. I get that most of us don’t want to wear makeup when we’re feeling sick, but we need to look presentable too especially if we’re working!

  • Take your medicine first.
Nothing is worse than trying to apply your makeup when your eyes are watering and you have to blow your nose every two seconds. Take your medicine first then your symptoms won’t be so severe.
  • Moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize some more!
Your nose is probably red and raw from blowing it. What I like to do is apply my daily moisturizer then put Vaseline over top of my nose. Helps to lock in the lotion.
  • Blow your nose first.
If your nose is all runny (gross imagery I know) then try to blow your nose as much as you can before you moisturize your nose and before you apply makeup. Usually my nose likes to start running again right after I apply my foundation. Go figure.
  • Pick warmer colours.
Since you’re sick your colouring might be a little off. It might be grey/paler than what it normally is. When you add warmer colours to your face it helps to brighten your skin tone, and make you look less tired. Think golds, coppers, yellows, browns, etc.
  • Conceal and powder your nose.
Sometimes you’ll need something with heavier coverage when it’s so red that’s why I recommend concealer over foundation. When you powder over it, it will help lock in your concealer’s colour and it’ll stay put throughout the day.
  • Waterproof mascara.
If your eyes are constantly watering then you’ll need heavy duty waterproof mascara.
  • Rest!
Drink lots of fluids and rest. If you’re not sleeping your eyes and you’re dehydrated your skin will look more puffy, and you’ll feel worse. Take some time out of your day to just rest your eyes if you don’t have time to nap!

Removing makeup stains

It definitely happens to everyone regardless of how careful you are. Sometimes it’s a little smudge of foundation on your shirt or it can be some lipstick/lip gloss combo that has managed to get on your clothes. Well I am here to help!

Disclaimer: this works to remove most stains on most fabrics. I can’t guarantee it to be 100%.

  1. Apply a small amount of makeup remover on the stain.
It definitely helps if your makeup remover is water based or like an lotion makeup remover. Oil based makeup remover will only add to your problem.
  2. Let it soak for a few minutes.
  3. Blot with a clean and dry towel.
Please for the love of Gucci do not scrub at it! Do not rub the stain either.
  4. You should start seeing the stain lifting. If it doesn’t repeat the process once more.
  5. Rinse with cold water.
At this point you should be okay to throw it into washing machine and it will come out in the wash.

Additional tips:

  • Do a test run first.
Whenever you try out a new cleaning method you should definitely try it out on a hidden area or on a less expensive item.
  • Blot.
Always blot! Never scrub a stain. Ever.
  • Treat quickly.
You definitely don’t want to let the stain sit. Plus they’re easier to remove when they’re fresh.
  • If it is a lipstick stain then hairspray and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Then dab with a damp sponge and throw it into the wash.
If it is on a dry clean only fabric then definitely ask a professional first, but if you are in a pickle use tape first to transfer the stain away.
  • Foundation stains can be treated with either makeup remover or soap.
Dawn soap is a great choice.
